Rebuilding Downtown Bryan: Several Big Projects In Progress

Several renovation and new construction projects are underway in the Historic Downtown Bryan area that promise to bring cultural and commercial vitality to the area. From the Queen Theater to the Ice House to the Bowie School, The Press has the details on the most exciting projects shaping the future of the area that has always been at the center of the Brazos Valley’s rich and storied past.

500 Bryan North

Signage is up and the site is cleared for 500 Bryan North, a mixed-use development consisting of 8 luxury apartment units and 2 offices in North Downtown Bryan. More info at

Bowie School Apartment Project


The Bowie School property on Bryan’s west side, occupies an entire city block near Historic Downtown Bryan. The large brick school building is set back from 26th Street & Sims Ave. Beaux Arts in style, the building stands 3-stories tall, and consists of block massing and symmetrical facades and forms.A team of local developers are are creating 40+ thoughtfully designed, modern, urban living spaces loaded with many practical standard features & unique options.

Ice House on Main


The Ice House on Main was built in 1912 as the Bryan Ice Company and was one of the most extensive and complete plants of its time. Through the years, the Ice House has been home to furniture manufacturing, a night club and other establishments. With its Mission Revival facade overlooking downtown, the Ice House on Main boasts 20,000 sq. ft. and is situated at the North end of Bryan’s historic district. With South end redevelopment well underway, the Ice House on Main promises to provide an anchor for North end activity and serve as a catalyst for further downtown development. A restaurant, art gallery, and event space are planned for the building.

Legal Monkeys Renovation and Addition


Legal Monkeys, a medical records collection firm for law offices, bought a city block in downtown Bryan Texas. The project includes the repurposing of a 1950’s bank building and addition. The addition will be the first new building construction in downtown Bryan in decades. The renovation and new construction were designed by BBA Architects.

Queen Theater Restoration


The Queen Theater at 110 South Main Street in Bryan with its stunning Streamline Moderne façade is one of the most distinctive of all buildings on Main Street. Now, past 70 years old, its façade has been restored to become the shining icon of revitalized Downtown Bryan. The renovations are ongoing and fundraising is well underway to construct four levels of banquet and meeting facilities inside the building, including a theater/performance room.
