The United Way Youth Leadership Cabinet will host its 18th annual Youth Leadership Day on Friday, September 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 506 East 28th St., Bryan, Texas.

A combined 150 student leaders from A&M Consolidated, Allen Academy, Bryan Collegiate, Bryan High, College Station High, College View, and Rudder High will gather to learn about United Way of the Brazos Valley, explore social needs facing our community, and discuss how students can make an impact in Bryan and College Station through fundraisers and volunteerism.

This year’s motivational talk will be given in the afternoon from Dr. Clark Ealy, Superintendent of CSISD, Dr. Matthew Rush, Head of School from Allen Academy, and Dr. Thomas Wallis, Superintendent of Bryan ISD. The United Way Youth Leadership Cabinet’s mission is to lead the way volunteering, raising funds, and helping others in the Brazos Valley.

The cabinet consists of 34 high school students from 7 area high schools who actively seek ways to Connect, Serve, and Lead to make a positive and lasting impact in our community. Throughout the year, the Cabinet hosts fall fundraisers to build awareness and raise funds for United Way of the Brazos Valley, a ‘Day of Caring’ in early spring for students to volunteer in the community, and a mini-grant process in which they allocate the funds raised to community partners in late spring.

Youth Leadership Cabinet members gain unique knowledge of the community and develop leadership, organizational and planning skills, while making a difference in their community. Last year, the Youth Leadership Cabinet raised over $13,000 from various ‘FUN’draisers in their schools and provided grants to fourteen local nonprofits whose programs align with United Way of the Brazos Valley’s bold goals of education, financial stability and health. This year, the Youth Leadership Cabinet’s fundraising goal is $10,000.

The 2016 Youth Leadership Day is made possible by the generous donations from Atmos Energy, City of Bryan, Chick-Fil-A Bryan, Farm Patch, First United Methodist Church Bryan, McAlister’s Deli, New South/West Baking Company, Readfield Meats & Deli, and SWICO Auctions.
